Generator Transfer Switch Installation in Lakeland, FL
The transfer system allows the home to receive generator power while keeping that power appropriately separated from the utility supply.
What an automatic transfer switch does
An ATS monitors utility power and coordinates transfer between utility and generator supply according to the system design. When normal utility power returns, it transfers the home back and allows the generator to complete its shutdown sequence.
Why isolation matters
Lakeland Electric's generator safety guidance tells customers using a house generator to use an isolation device—also called a transfer switch—between the generator and Lakeland Electric's service conductor. Improper generator connections can create dangerous backfeed conditions.
ATS selection is part of generator design
Transfer equipment must be compatible with the home's electrical service, generator capacity and load-management strategy. Lakeland's generator permit checklist asks for generator and ATS specifications and, when applicable, load calculations.
